As part of the wider Wellington Dock redevelopment works,
TMS were appointed by Walker Construction (Principal Contractor) as a
specialist Marine Contractor on the construction of a new vertical boat
hoist. The full scope of the Project included:
Located in South Devon within the grounds of the historic Buckfast Abbey on the River Dart,
where a monastic community has been present for over 1000 years, an old existing weir on
the river had begun to collapse and full failure of the structure was imminent. At the same
site on the river, an old pool and historic traverse fish pass were also dilapidated and
presented too great a leap for fish to successfully make their way upstream for feeding and
reproduction in the spawning grounds.
TMS were emploed by Westcountry Rivers Trust to:
• Install a Lariner superactive Baffle Fishpass within an existing pooltraverse
fish pass channel;
• Excavate and reinforce the outlet pool and the adjacent river bank to
accommodate the new fishpass;
• Locally extend the weir toe to bring it in line with the outlet using
riprap stone;
• Install a fish chute adjacent to the leat entrance;
• Install a seasonal screen infrastructure and a maintenance walkway;
• Level the entire weir crest to reduce competing attraction flows;
• Appropriately tie in all works to the riverbed and river banks.
In support of BAM Nuttall for the Boston flood protection
barrier project, TMS were appointed to undertake dredging,
scour protection and diving support. The work was
undertaken in three phases over 24 months including:
TMS were appointed by AV Dawson to carry out the replacement of a failed
section of quay in Middlesbrough Port. Due to increasing dredge depth and
quay loading, the existing sheet piled quay wall had suffered partial failure
and required replacement to prevent collapse and allow for future
operational loading.
TMS were contracted in October 2019 by ABP Plymouth to carry out the task to repair the reinforced concrete beams
underneath West Wharf. The concrete beams had failed due to the wetting and drying of the steel causing the concrete to
crack and blow around the steel.
The project was funded through Welsh Government’s Coastal Risk Management Programme (CRMP) with contribution from
Gwynedd Council who managed delivery along with their Consultancy partners YGC. TMS Ltd took on the project as Principal
Contractor: the works consisted of construction of a 240m long sheet piled quay wall,
During rough sea state conditions in late 2015, a passenger ferry was forced against Plymouth’s Millbay Pier, causing damage to the fendering systems.
Due to the increased frequency of cruise ships landing in Portland, in 2016 TMS were engaged by Portland Port Ltd (as the Principal Contractor) to design and construct two new mooring dolphins and connecting bridges for the mooring of cruise ships.

Westcountry Rivers Trust engaged TMS to install new fish baffles to the two side channels of this historic 3 span masonry arch bridge and repair the existing low flow main channel. The site is in a very sensitive location and on a busy main road; access was through fields and through a local busy wood merchant.
Due to unforeseen circumstances the rear river boundary wall at six properties on River Terrace in St Neots, Cambridgeshire had collapsed into the river as well as part of their gardens. The 30m long removal of temporary works, existing material removal & rebuild was required with some challenging components to work around.
